  Counseling groups: program overview

The LWC counseling program takes you through a thorough defining of your ideal job (blue puzzle pieces) and ideal field (red pieces) as well as preparing you for effective informational and employment interviewing (yellow pieces) using What Color Is Your Parachute? as the “101-level” textbook. All of this is done in a supportive group setting, with the majority of time spent in small-group activities.

The blue, red, and yellow sections, then, constitute a full working through of the Parachute process.

For the green puzzle pieces, original LWC materials and methods are used to define one’s life’s work. It is an innovative exploration of three areas vital to life and work fulfillment:
• Personal values clarification
• An actual answer to the difficult question “How much money is enough?”
• Four sectors, or modes, of employment (as the LWC carefully defines them)

It is this green portion of the puzzle metaphor that takes you, as an LWC participant, beyond the highly regarded Parachute job-search tools, to find more than a job—to find your right livelihood, life’s work, or calling in life.

With one two-hour meeting per week (in the ongoing program) and on the assumption that you have a busy life and can do little or no homework, the entire process typically takes around nine months of weekly sessions—about as long as a two-semester college course. If you desire a shorter process, the next 8-week group is enrolling now to begin in January 2009 (8 weekday evening cycle).
